MOTION NO. 18

MOTION: Councillor T. Delaney

That the manager agrees to draw up a short term plan of action to address the presentation issues in Newcastle Village. The area has been affected particularly badly by the current crisis resulting in a relatively high number of vacant & unfinished housing developments, site hoardings, etc. If agreed this process should involve the local community.

REPORT:

As part of the roll out of Local Area Plans for the County over the life of the current County Development Plan, it is intended to prepare a Local Area Plan for Newcastle.

(At present, work is progressing on the preparation of a Local Area Plan at Fortunestown; the pre-planning consultation phase will end on 21^st April 2011.)

The current Newcastle Local Area Plan dates from 2003. It is anticipated that pre-plan consultation stage would be reached by Autumn 2011 and that a Draft Newcastle Local Area Plan would be on public display by late 2011.

Among other things, this process would address vacant and unfinished housing developments, site hoardings etc. and would involve a wide variety of stakeholders including the local community.
