QUESTION NO. 8
QUESTION: Councillor J. Hannon
"To ask the Manager to indicate the cost of replacing road nameplates in the Committee's area arising from the Official Languages Act, and from 'wear and tear'?"
REPLY:
The cost to replace a road nameplate is € 150 approx. each depending on size and whether it needs to be mounted on a stand. Larger signs would cost considerably more. The records of the Council in relation to this matter are not kept in Area Committee order so the extraction of the data to enable a complete answer to this question will require a significant resource allocation to determine exact figures. The overall budget provision in 2010 for the replacement of all signage was €60,000 and included a programme which was focused on the area south of the N7 Naas Road. It is estimated that approximately one third of this sum was utilised to replace nameplates in the area of the Tallaght Area Committee solely under the requirements of the Official Languages Act. The Budget provision also covers the replacement of damaged or obsolete signs and the replacement of missing or stolen signs. It is proposed that the programme will be focussed on areas in the north of the County this year and a similar sum of money has been provided in Budget 2011.
