QUESTION NO. 15

QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

To ask the Manager for an updated report on the total number of applicants, including transfer applicants, for housing under the Applicant Sourced Housing initiative, since the Council began to implement the initiative, and the number of applicants who have to date been allocated homes under the initiative?

REPLY:

Following approval from the DOEHLG to run this pilot scheme South Dublin County Council contacted 300 Housing Applicants in total providing information of the Applicant Sourced Homes scheme.  This was done in three tranches to those requiring three bedroom accommodation 1st tranche to 50 applicants, 2nd to 100 and 3rd to 150.  The ASH scheme is only available to those on the Housing List.  To date 14 applicants have been allocated new homes.

These first contacts have indicated that the pilot is likely to be a success and consequently we have made a number of changes to the existing systems in house to enable this and the Choice Based letting system to progress faster and more efficiently.  Firstly a new computer system to process the offers and replies being received has been designed and is expected to be fully operational in the coming weeks.  Also a new working arrangement whereby the Procurement section of housing makes direct contact with the applicants has now been put in place and it is expected that additional tranches of offers will be made in the coming weeks.  It is also intended to contact applicants on the 2 and 4 bed lists.
