MOTION NO.4
MOTION: Councillor P. Kearns
That this Committee calls on the Manager to issue a report on what works have been carried out on the maintenance and upgrade of the playing pitches in Tymon Park, and what work is planned for the future so that the pitches can be maintained to an acceptable standard.
REPORT:
There are 30 playing pitches in Tymon Park catering for Gaelic Football, Camogie, Hurling, Soccer, Softball and Rugby and for both male and female participants. The 30 pitches are used by 16 Clubs and this in turn approximates to 138 teams. Considering the level of usage it is considered that the playing pitches in Tymon Park are maintained to a high standard. Obviously, due to the extensive use of the pitches there will always be a certain amount of wear and tear and this is addressed by routine maintenance operations. Where there are particular issues with specific pitches, the club or clubs allocated to that pitch will generally raise the matter with local staff. In most cases, minor issues such as grasscutting, goalpost repair, etc are generally resolved at depot level. However, more significant issues, such as pitch drainage and specialist turfgrass maintenance operations, are referred to County Hall, in particular, where there is an issue in relation to identifying resources to cover the cost of carrying out the works.
There are no plans by the Council to undertake any major work on the pitches in Tymon Park this year.
