COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)

MOTION NO. 11
MOTION: Councillor M. Duff
That this Committee calls on the Manager to make a report regarding the rapid decline in the surface covering on the traffic calming ramps on the Castletymon Road and other areas in the St Aengus parish area. Would the Manager also report to this Committee if the original Contractor has any obligation to redress this problem.
REPORT:
Significant deterioration to the surface of traffic calming ramps has occured throughout the County. Similar issues are also evident in neighbouring Local Authority areas. It is probable that the recent periods of prolonged sub-zero temperatures that were experienced during late 2009 / early 2010 and again in late 2010 contributed to the problem. Roads Department staff are currently in discussions with the road surfacing suppliers and contractors to examine the matter and develop a strategy to prevent a re-occurance.
It will not be possible to place the onus for repairs to the Castletymon Road on the original contractor for the scheme as the maintenance period has expired a number of years ago. It should be noted however, that funding has been requested from the NRA for a restoration scheme to be carried out in 2011 in a number of locations in the County including the Castletymon Road.
