MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)

Monday, March 28, 2011

QUESTION NO.1

QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney

"To ask the Manager to confirm how grass cutting arrangements for sports pitches and graveyards under the maintenance of this Council in the area under the remit of this Committee are expected to improve in comparison with last year, and to make a statement on the matter?"

REPLY:

The anticipated frequency of general grass cutting during the summer months in the Tallaght area during 2011 will be 15 working days. Priority will be given to the maintenance of sports pitches and it is intended that the pitches will be cut at a frequency that ensures that they are available for play throughout the season.   While every effort will be made to achieve this frequency, it is important to note that cutting grass is dependant on a range of factors including other works on hand, staff resources available, weather/ground conditions and machinery breakdowns, all of which can impact on the frequency and extend the cutting intervals. Notwithstanding the above, every effort will be made to allocate the resources available within the Park's Department on a flexible and prioritised basis to maximum effect, to ensure that the grass maintenance across the Tallaght Area is to the highest possible standard.

The Environment Department have advised that it is anticipated that the Burial Grounds staff complement will be available for burial grounds maintenance work on a full time basis from April 4th which will enable the maintenance and grass cutting schedules to be met in 2011.
