MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)

MOTION NO.5

MOTION: Councillor M. Devine

That this Committee calls on the Manager to provide an update concerning the timing and funding for the playground in Tymon Park.  It is at present destroyed and decayed and long overdue refurbishment.

REPORT:

The playground referred to in the Tymon North section of Tymon Park was constructed in the 1980s and had deteriorated to such an extent that it had to be closed some years ago.  In the meantime a new playground was constructed at the Willington end of Tymon Park and whilst this has been a spectacular success it does not fully meet the needs of the Tymon North or surrounding areas.

As part of the Council's 5 Year Playground Construction Programme 2007 - 2012, it was proposed to construct a new playground, adjacent to the Tymon North entrance to Tymon Park. A proposal to commence the Part 8 consultation process for the new playground was brought before the November 2010 Tallaght (2) Area Committee and noted by the Members at the December 2010 Council  Meeting.

The Part 8 Public Consultation phase for this proposal was advertised on the 10th March 2011 and the plans and particulars are on public display at County Hall, County, Castle Tymon and Ballyroan libraries until the 26th April 2011. The closing date for the receipt of submissions from interested parties is the 6th May 2011.

Subject to the availability of the necessary finance and the approval of the Elected Members, it is planned that the construction of this facility would start in the Autumn of 2011 and that it would be opened to the public in Spring 2012.
