MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

QUESTION NO. 9

QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

To ask the Manager if he will advise the Committee on the current status of the proposal to have a school times restriction on HGVs on the Newcastle Road, Lucan?

REPLY:

The following reply was presented to the January 2011 meeting of this Area Committee:

"At the previous meeting of this Committee an undertaking was given to implement this policy, subject to the approval of the Garda Authorities.  In this regard the Council wrote to the Garda Authorities seeking their endorsement of the proposal.

The following reply was received:

"An Garda Síochana supports the introduction of school time heavy goods vehicles restriction on the Newcastle Road, Lucan, Whilst An Garda Siochana has responsibility for enforcement , the support of all stakeholders will be necessary to ensure the restriction is fully complied with."

In this regard the Council now proposes to seek the support of all stakeholders as advised by the Gardaí.  It is proposed therefore to include this as a Headed Item on the Agenda of both the Transportation SPC and the Economic Development  SPC for their next meetings."

Unfortunately due to circumstances, the proposed meeting of the Transportation Strategic Policy Committee due to be held on 10th February 2011 was cancelled. The next available opportunity for the matter to be considered arises at the proposed Joint Meeting of the Transportation and Economic Development Strategic Policy Committees on 29th March 2011. The matter has also been considered by the Clondalkin Area Committee at their meeting held on 16th February 2011.
