MOTION: Councillor D. Looney
That this Committee requests the Manager, in light of the ongoing efforts to promote inclusion, LGBT rights and awareness of gay history by this Council, particularly through the County Library, to investigate the potential for further events in the Tallaght area, either as part of the upcoming Dublin Pride festival or as separate events, and to make a statement on the matter.
REPORT:
As part of Social Inclusion Week 2010 the Social Inclusion Unit had the screening of “A Bit of the Other” directed by Edmund Lynch in County Library Tallaght. It was well attended and it is proposed that as part of Social Inclusion Week 2011 an event will be organized to promote inclusion and the LGBT Community. The Social Inclusion Unit will be working in partnership with County Library Tallaght to organise this event. County Library have their own programme of events which is organized by Mark Ward. In the month of June the event below has been organised:
DID ANYONE NOTICE US? GAY VISIBILITY IN THE IRISH MEDIA 1973 - 1993 COUNTY LIBRARY TALLAGHT
South Dublin County Council’s Social Inclusion Unit and Library Services are delighted to present Edmund Lynch’s ‘DID ANYONE NOTICE US?’ Gay Visibility in the Irish Media 1973 to 1993. The screening will take place on Tuesday 22nd June at 7.00 pm in County Library, Tallaght (last stop on the LUAS Red- Line). This is part of the LGBTQ Pride Festival 2010.
