MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

QUESTION NO. 2

QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

To ask the Manager for an up to date report on the cleansing of gullies in the Palmerstown and Lucan areas of this County, to include the date on which they were last cleaned, and to state if he is satisfied that all fire hydrants in the area are identified, accessible and easily located.

REPLY:

A private contractor clears gullies in the estates and on the roads in South Dublin on behalf of the County Council. 44,000 gullies are maintained each year.

Gullies must be cleansed to extract all solid material and detritus and remove it for disposal to an approved transfer site.

Gulley cleansing is done once a year on all streets, main roads and dual carriageways and motorways except in some locations as agreed with the Council that are prone to flooding.  These are cleansed 2-4 times a year.

In the Lucan Area 12 gully routes  were scheduled for cleaning up to week commencing 14th March 2011. The 12 gully routes are contained in the area bound by the Lucan Road to the north,  Fonthill Road to the east to the railway line to the south and to the west by Celbridge Road.

In Palmerston area 4 gully routes are defined and the gullies will be cleaned later in the year.
