QUESTION NO. 7
QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
To ask the Manager, further to my motion at the February meeting, and noting the very-serious traffic accident on the 28th February involving a child walking to school, again requests the Manager to install a signalised pedestrian crossing on Griffeen Avenue at Oldbridge Estate; and to advise on whether the pedestrian crossing proposed for Griffeen Avenue under planning permission SD09A/0149, granted on the 24th February by An Bord Pleanala, could be expedited?
REPLY:
As already explained to the Councillor the warrant for a pedestrian crossing at this location was not met in traffic counts carried out recently and a pedestrian crossing cannot be installed at this location. There are a number of locations in the county which have met the traffic warrant but funding is not yet available. This location would, if the warrant was met, have to take its place in the queue. The accident referred to is under investigation but it is understood that the presence or absence of the pedestrian crossing at this location had no bearing on the accident occurrence.
The proposed pedestrian crossing on the planning permission is a matter for the developer and the council does not have the ability to expedite it.
