MEETING OF SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

Monday, March 14, 2011

QUESTION NO. 3

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

To ask the Manager to advise on the proposed location of litter bins to be installed during 2011 and to further advise if residents association were to independently fund and arrange for the installation of an approved model of litter bin in their estate whether the council would agree to remove the contents as part the regular bin-cleansing rota?

REPLY:

An update on the proposed locations of litter bins will be presented to the Area Committees at the April meetings.

The allocation of resources for Litter Bin Servicing duties is something that must be done in a planned manner. The Council places litter bins where there is a need for bins and assesses this need on the basis of litter surveys carried out over time. The Council is indeed willing to consider the siting of bins at locations proposed and funded by Residents Associations, however, siting and servicing of the bins will only be agreed to where the resourcing/necessity critieria for siting of bins are met.

Residents Associations that wish to pay/contribute towards the siting of bins should make an application to the Environment Department with their proposals. Applications will only be considered where agreement is sought in advance of the siting of the bins and where they can be accommodated as part of a route for emptying such bins.
