QUESTION NO. 9
QUESTION: Councillor C. Keane
"To ask the Manager for an update on Rathfarnham Castle Security Gates?"
REPLY:
There are two gates at Castleside and Woodlands which are currently opened and closed on an automatic system controlled by a light sensor. The OPW control the gate at the car park on the Rathfarnham Road. The gates at Rathfarnham Wood and opposite the Yellow House public house are not currently closed. However, and as presented at the Rathfarnham ACM on the 14th December 2010 it is now proposed to control these gates by an automatic timer system. This is necessary to increase the security measures to protect the Castle and to control anti social activity in the park itself.
Notices will shortly be placed on both entrances indicating the Council's intention to open and close them on the same basis as the existing controlled pedestrian gates. The Members will be circulated with a copy of the notice, to inform them as to when the notices are being placed.
It is also the intention of the Council to engage in discussions with the local residents and interested individuals before proceeding with the work. It would be the intention of the Council to proceed with the work at the end of April 2011.
