HEADED ITEM NO. FILLING OF CASUAL VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF MAYOR, SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL OR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL VACANCY IN ACCORDANCE WITH S. 38 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT 2001

In accordance with Section 31 of the Local Government Act 2001 each local authority shall have a Mayor.

As a result of the election of the  Mayor, Cllr. Eamon Maloney on Saturday 26th February 2011 a casual vacancy has occurred in the office of Mayor, South Dublin County Council

In accordance with Section 38 of the Local Government Act 2001 where a casual vacancy occurs in the office of Mayor or Deputy Mayor of a local authority the members of the authority present at the next meeting of the authority after the occurrence of the vacancy, shall elect one of their number to be Mayor or Deputy Mayor as the case may be.  A person  elected to fill a casual vacancy in the office of Mayor or Deputy Mayor shall be elected for the remainder of the term of office of his / her predecessor

Section 37 of the Local Government Act (Method of election) shall apply in relation to the election of a member to fill a casual vacancy in the office of Mayor.

It is now before the members to elect a member of this council to fill the casual vacancy in the office of Mayor and / or any consequential vacancy for a period up to the 2011 Annual Meeting
