MOTION: Councillor D. Looney

That this Committee notes with concern the new restrictions on the Council's Arboricultural Programme, calls on the Manager to investigate all possible funding sources for tree planting and asks the Manager to provide a report on tree pruning, removal and planting in this area detailing work over the past 5 years and plans for the coming year.

REPORT:

The Arboricultural Programme 2010 -2011 is being presented at this meeting and details the tree pruning and removals work that have been completed to date as well as details of works proposed to be undertaken before the end of the current season. 

In relation to new tree planting, while it would be desireable to have a planting programme, in times of limited financial resources, works have to be prioritised. Given the extensive planting programmes undertaken over the last ten to fifteen years, it is considered appropriate to focus limited resources on maintaining the existing tree population.
