MOTION NO. 8
MOTION: Councillor C. Jones
That this Committee calls for action to be taken by the litter warden to remedy litter problems in the Oakcourt Estate including dumping and graffiti.
REPORT:
This estate has recently been inspected by the local Litter Warden who reports that there is no major litter problem there. However, there are a number of issues as follows:
- a small amount of graffiti has reappeared at a location previously treated by the Council's Graffiti Removal Crew. This location will be listed for attention again;
- there is occasional dumping in the lane that runs to the rear of Oakcourt Ave/Wheatfield Road - judging by the materials found on an ongoing basis, the Warden is of the opinion that this area appears to be subject to dumping by some local residents as a means of waste disposal. Where evidence is available, the Warden will issue fines. She also arranges for the material to be removed by the Cleansing section as required.
- there has also been some dumping on the green space next to the Sports Hall and the Parks Department have been requested to clean this area. Additionally, there is some litter along a boundary fence of the Sports Hall on Oakcourt Avenue and the Warden is making contact with the hall management to ensure that they remove this litter
In recent weeks, the Warden has provided assistance and materials to residents in the area for local clean ups and she will continue to monitor the area, including the specific locations above, to ensure that the issues outlined above are addressed.
