MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 1

QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

To ask if the Manager is engaged at the present time, in securing, through the Applicant Source Housing Initiative or otherwise, 1 or 2 bedroom units in Lucan which could be allocated to existing older Lucan Council tenants in 3/4 bedroomed houses in Lucan, who wish to downsize but to remain in Lucan close to adult children?

REPLY:

The Council is currently processing 27 privately owned properties in the Lucan Electoral Area for inclusion in the Social Housing Leasing Initiative which includes 12 x 2 bedroom and 7 x 1 bedroom units. Each property is being examined for suitability in compliance with leasing standards.  The Applicant Sourced Homes Initiative was originally only applicable to those on the Council's Housing List and current tenants of South Dublin County Council could not be included in the initiative.

The Council is aware of a number of over accommodated tenants in the Lucan Area and they will be considered when allocations are being made in the area.  The question of extending the ASH Scheme to over accommodated households will be considered in conjunction with the DOEHLG.
