SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

QUESTION NO. 2
QUESTION: Councillor D. Looney
"To ask the Manager to confirm the amount of water mains bursts in the Dublin 12 area during the recent cold snap, to provide a comparison between this area and the remainder of the county, and to make a statement on the matter?"
REPLY:
There were 40 burst watermains due to natural causes in the Council's administrative area in December 2010. Seven of these were in the Dublin 12 area which represents 17.5% of the total. Similarly in January 2011, there were 35 burst watermains in the county due to natural causes of which five were in the Dublin 12 area which represents 14.3% of the total.
This high percentage of burst watermains in mostly in the Walkinstown/Greenhills/Limekiln areas. This is the reason the rehabilitation of old watermains in the Council's administrative area started recently in St. Anthony’s Crescent, Dublin 12 and is going into St. Malachy’s Drive and surrounding roads soon.
