MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

QUESTION NO. 6

QUESTION: Councillor T. Delaney

To ask the Manager to consider the use of CCTV in an effort to fight the problem of illegal dumping on Knockmeenagh Lane, Clondalkin?

REPLY:

Knockmeenagh Lane is known to the local Litter Warden as an illegal dumping blackspot and consequently, it is regularly patrolled by the Warden.  When any material is found, it is thoroughly searched for any evidence to support enforcement action and the Warden then arranges for its removal by the Cleansing Section.

This area is one of a number for which CCTV is being considered under the Public Realm Initiative.  However, factors such as the suitability of the location for CCTV power and coverage, the likelihood of obtaining suitable evidence from the site, the cost of installing CCTV there and whether the size of the area affected can be monitored effectively will have to be considered before a final decision is made on installation.
