Item 2 / Item 3
Matters Arising
It was agreed that the issue of collection of court fines would remain on the agenda for a further meeting to assess progress
The Data Protection issue in relation to “Name and Shame” was discussed and further advice is awaited.
Item 4
Business Survival and Water Conservation
A comprehensive report on water usage and businesses was presented. This action forms part of the overall Business Survival Package being initiated by the Council in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce. The Members welcomed the report and the connection being made between water conservation and saving money for business.
Item 5
Water Conservation for Summer Months
A report was presented setting out the water issues over last summer and the correlation between increase of temperature, reduced rainfall water production and availability. There was discussion about the best means of publicizing a water conservation campaign. It was agreed that any suggestions be forwarded but that publicizing models of good practice through awards and advice on gardening for warm weather would be helpful. The issue of power hoses was discussed however it was agreed that the introduction of ban would pose considerable enforcement issues.
Item 6
Community Clean-Up Guidelines
A report was presented setting out the issues in relation to community clean-ups and advice for community organizations. The difficulties caused by garden waste and even domestic waste being added to these clean-ups and in particular the mounting disposal costs was discussed. It was agreed that while it was a problem and indeed that a structure involving notice and making arrangements would be helpful the introduction of a contribution towards the disposal costs was premature. A further report will be brought to the next SPC but meanwhile the advice and notice arrangements would be put in place.
There was no other business and the meeting concluded at 7.10 p.m.
