6. Guidelines for Community Clean-Ups.
REPLY:
The South Dublin County Council Litter Management Plan 2008-2011 adopted in June 2008 contains as one of its objectives - “Encourage active participation in Anti-Litter Campaigns”. This includes encouraging communities, schools and businesses to get involved in local clean-ups and national anti-litter campaigns i.e. National spring Clean and Tidy Towns competition.
Draft guidelines for communities clean-ups have been prepared to help groups prepare for clean-ups, consider issues which may emerge and outline the supports available from the Council.
The procedure outlined includes applying for support from the Council up to 3 weeks in advance of clean-up, outlining clean-up area and considerations such as risk assessment, health & safety, insurance and waste disposal.
The Council’s litter warden will implement the guidelines with a pre and post inspection.
The Council propose a charge of €100 per clean-up. Communities should ensure that the material does not contain domestic or green waste.
A copy of the guidelines are attached.
