QUESTION NO.21

QUESTION: Councillor E. Walsh 2009

1. An mbeadh  Plean Éigeandála ag an gComhairle dá dtarlofaí dóiteán mór nó beag sa chontae, agus an mbeadh dóthan uisce ar fáíl don Bhriogáid Dóiteáin Bhaile Átha Cliath  i gcás srianta/ciorraithe uisce curtha i bhfeidhm ag an gComhairle, mar a tharla an mhí seo caite?

2. An bhfuil Prótocail ann don chás seo ?

3. An bhfuil siad ar eolas ag daoine sa Bhriogáid Dóiteáin agus sa Chomhairle Contae?

(1. Does the Council have an Emergency Plan in the event of a large or small fire in the County that enough water would be available to the Dublin  Fire Brigade in case of cuts or water restrictions being in place, as happened last month.

2. Do Protocols exist for such a case?

3. Are they known to people in the Council and Fire Brigade?)

REPLY:

Tá nósanna imeachta ag Briogáid Dóiteáin Átha Cliath i gcás tine mór nó beag sa Chontae nuair atá srian ar uisce nó ciorraithe i bhfeidhm. Bíonn breis inneall dóitean lán le uisce sa stáisiún dóiteáin ina bhfuil sianta/ciorraithe i lathair agus chomh maith leis sin is feidir leo inneall dóitean o cheanntar eile a fháil i gcás tine mór go hathraithe.

Cuirtear an Seirbhís Dóiteáin ar eolas chomh luath agus a cuitear srianta/ciooaithe i bhfeidhm agus is feidir an seirbhís a theorú go dtí ceanntar nach bhfuil na srianta uisce i bhfeidhm. I gcás da mbeadh an Seirbhís Dóiteáin ar eolas go mbeadh uisec ag teastail uatha cuirfaidh an Chomhairle deireadh leis na srianta ar an bpoinnte agus beidh uisce ar fail sa cheanntar. Ba cheart a rá nach raibh aon deacaracht Ó thaobh an Seirbhís Dóiteáin agus ganntanas uisce le gairid.

(Dublin Fire Brigade has standard procedures that are put in place in the event of a large or small fires in the County when water restrictions or shut offs are in place. The Fire Station covering an area with water restrictions will have additional Fire Tenders filled with water on standby within the Station ready for use and will also be able to call up additional Fire Tenders from other Station if it is felt necessary as is the normal practise in the event of a large fire anyway. The Fire Service is notified and is aware of areas with water restrictions or water shut offs and can direct Fire Tenders to unrestricted areas to refill. In the event that the Fire Service indicate that they require water in a restricted area because of the size or intensity of a fire, once notified South Dublin County Council would immediately open the closed valves and supply water to the area of the fire.  It should be noted that there were no issues regarding the fire service and a lack of supply of water during the recent water restrictions.)
