QUESTION NO. 8

QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

To ask the Manager if he can confirm that the disposal of the lands at Esker Lane, on which the Re-cycling Centre and Park's Depot were located, to the Department of Education and Skills has been completed.  Has the Department of Education and Skills had any pre-planning meeting with the Council regarding a Planning Application for a school building.  Does the Manager know which existing or proposed school the site is intended?

REPLY:

The Department of Education & Skills and the Council, through our legal representatives, are preparing the various legal documents to complete the transaction in accordance with the terms of the Disposal approved by the Members at the Council Meeting on 13th December 2010.  In cases such as this it would be normal for the Council to grant a building licence, followed on completion of the development by a long lease or freehold interest.  As the terms of disposal condition the Department of Education & Skills to lodge the entire agreed consideration for both the site and the depot re-location costs in trust with the Council, this is now being arranged.  The Department of Education & Skills has advised that it is the Esker Educate Together School who will occupy the building on completion.

Formal pre-planning discussions have not taken place.  However, it is agreed that a joint public information evening will be held by the Department and the Council in advance of the lodging of the planning application for the school and the commencement of the Part 8 procedure for the Depot when drawings are adequately advanced by both parties.
