MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

MOTION NO. 16

MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

That in the proposed review of the Parking Bye Laws the Manager would consider again dropping the charge for Saturday Parking in Palmerstown Village and that he consult with the residents and traders on the matter.

REPORT:

The proposed review of the Control of Parking bye Laws is underway. It is proposed within the available resources to complete an extensive review process which will not only examine issues such as that highlighted in the motion but also a number of additional requests which have been received such as the inclusion of Watertown Avenue in the Bye Laws. A full report will be presented to the Area Committee when completed.

One of the objectives for the review is to ensure that as far as possible that a unified operational system is implemented across the County which maximises the resources that will be available for enforcement in order to tackle the issue of inappropriate and continuous parking in residential areas. While Saturday is a trading day in the village, parking demands are considerably lower but like other village commercial centres in the County the need to maintain the availability of spaces so as to increase footfall to businesses is vital.
