QUESTION NO. 23
QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
To ask the Manager to update on progress with the ‘Green Route’ project linking Griffeen Avenue to the Grand Canal, including the proposed new Grand Canal bridge and the proposed Griffeen Avenue toucan crossing?
REPLY:
The majority of the project in relation to the CCTV, Public Lighting and construction of the cycle / pedestrian paths within Griffeen Valley Park, Hayden’s Lane and along the R120, is on programme target. Ducting for both the CCTV and Public Lighting in Griffeen Valley Park is complete and work on the installation of the CCTV and Public Lighting for the route in ongoing. Surfacing of the cycle paths in the Park has been delayed due to adverse weather conditions and should be complete by the end of February. A contractor has been appointed in relation to the canal overbridge and site clearance and foundation works have begun. The T2 licence for the Toucan Crossing works has been released by SDCC and it is envisaged that works on the crossing will being in the next couple of weeks and that the crossing will be fully operational by the end of February.
The current timeframe for the completion of the project is Easter (mid April) 2011.
