MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe

That this Council Committee calls on the Manager to give a report outlining how the severe weather impacted on the opening and usage of Community Facilities in the area.

REPORT:

The severe weather in December curtailed activities in many of the local community centres during this period. Dangerous travel conditions impeded customers from accessing many centres and resulted in cancellations. Facilities are managed by autonomous bodies and decisions to remain open or to close were made on a case by case basis. Efforts were made to inform customers of the fluid situation. Most stakeholders were informed by phone/text of the circumstances. Some centres gave daily updates on their web sites.

Given the erratic nature of these inclement events, the subject of improved communications will be raised at the next Community Centre Fedration meeting with a view to developing a cohesive communications policy.
