SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)

MOTION NO. 4
MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe
This Committee recognising the lack of Taxi parking bays in the vicinity of Tallaght Stadium calls on the manager in consultation with the Garda Authorities to investigate the establishing of iniatially temporary bays during match and other planned fixtures near this venue.
REPORT:
The requirement for taxi facilities at Tallaght Stadium has been discussed with both Tallaght Gardai and the Stadium Management. While some limited taxi activated is tolerated during match times, traffic and crowd management of the venue does not recommend the establishment of taxi ranks in the vicinity of the stadium to cater for event requirements.
Vehicles are usually not permitted on Whitestown Road around match times and the Gardai control pedestrian crossing of the N81 as crowds leave the stadium. In accordance with best practise it is also desirable that transport facilities are placed away from large venues in order that crowds can be safely managed. Existing private arrangements nearby appear to be adequate to meet demand for taxis. The matter can be reviewed in the context of the overall review at present underway into the demand for a public taxi rank facilities to serve the Tallaght area.
