MOTION NO. 5
MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe
That this Council Committee calls on the Manager to give a report outlining how the severe weather impacted on maintenance demands in the area.
REPORT:
During the adverse weather conditions housing maintenance staff were engaged in the removal of snow from the grounds of the OAP complexes on a daily basis as well as keeping the main bus routes clear e.g Killinarden Height, Cheeverstown Road, Fettercairn Road and Springfield. They delivered fresh drinking water to tenants who had frozen watermains and where central heating systems had broken down and parts could not be sourced until after Christmas they delivered oil fired electric heaters.
The staff responded to 26 emergency callouts over the Christmas period and these included in the main burst pipes and heating breakdowns. The number of emergency and urgent maintenance requests countywide in December 2010 were 1644, which is an increase of 274 on the same period last year.
