QUESTION NO. 9

QUESTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave

"To ask the Manager to include the trimming of the large trees at the side of 84 Cremorne. These large trees emit a cotton wool substance in summer covering houses and gardens close to the trees?"

REPLY:

The trees at this location will be included for consideration for pruning in the 2011 Arboricultural Programme.

It should be noted that due to the limited resources available this year, that the focus of the programme will be on a targeted tree maintenance programme rather than new planting. Priority will be given to trees that are most in need of attention e.g. street trees that are in a poor condition, dead, diseased, or causing an obstruction to passing pedestrian or road traffic, or obstructing street lighting. Only trees in these categories will be considered for inclusion in the programme.

To inform the programme preparation, the tree at the above address will be inspected as soon as possible.  In relation to the “cotton wool substance” which is in fact tree seed, as described as coming from the tree, this is a natural occurrence and other than being somewhat of a nuisance it should be of no cause for concern to the adjacent householder.
