MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor D. Keating

That the Manager would set out the schedule leading to the introduction of the agreed School-Time Heavy Goods Restriction on the Newcastle Road, Lucan, in keeping with Council Policy as included in our County Development Plan, as agreed with Council Management, and that specifically this new and agreed measure will be introduced on 1st January 2011.

REPORT:

At the previous meeting of this committee an undertaking was given to implement this policy, subject to the approval of the Garda Authorities.  In this regard the Council wrote to the Garda Authorities seeking their endorsement of the proposal.

The following reply was received:

"An Garda Síochana supports the introduction of school time heavy goods vehicles restriction on the Newcastle Road, Lucan, Whilst An Garda Siochana has responsibility for enforcement , the support of all stakeholders will be necessary to ensure the restriction is fully complied with."

In this regard the Council now proposes to seek the support of all stakeholders as advised by the Gardaí.  It is proposed therefore to include this as a Headed Item on the Agenda of both the Transportation SPC and the Economic Development  SPC for their next meetings.
