QUESTION NO. 18
QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell
To ask the Manager to arrange the examination of the recently installed distribution box outside No 39 Oak Court Lawns as it is already a focal point for anti-social behaviour and appears to have been installed without any consideration for the impact it may have locally. Secondly, does such a retro-fit of a public utility require planning permission or/and does the local authority have to be consulted and if yes was it and what was the input into the decision to locate at this point?
REPLY:
A roadside electrical cabinet was installed in early November 2010 by UPC Ltd as part of a broadband upgrade project being carried out in the area. A licence was applied for and granted by the South Dublin Roadworks Control Unit. The cabinet was sited on the grass verge, away from adjacent private residences. This unit is typical of others throughout the county which have been erected by telecommunications companies.
