QUESTION NO. 10
QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
To ask the Manager for a report on the response, from developers and property owners in the Lucan EA, to the Council's invitation to offer housing units on lease to the Council for allocation to Housing List applicants under the recent Government Initiative?
REPLY:
The Social Housing Leasing Initiative provides an opportunity for private property owners to make residential properties available to a local authority under lease arrangements for allocation to social housing applicants.
The details of the initiative have been promoted and advertised by the Housing & Sustainable Communities Agency. since it was rolled out in June 2010. The scheme is also advertised on the Council’s website together with an outline FAQ.
To date the Council has received expressions of interest from property owners across a range of property types throughout the county for in excess of 350 properties of which 57 are in the Lucan electoral area.
Of the 57 properties in Lucan electoral area, 33 were made available for Council inspection. These properties are at various stages of assessment and inspection for inclusion in the leasing scheme. To date lease agreements have been completed in the case of 3 properties in the Lucan electoral area and have been made available for allocation to housing applicants.
The Social Housing Leasing Initiative is gathering momentum and the yield of properties for allocation to housing applicants from this source is expected to rise.
