MOTION NO 7.
MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe
That this Committee calls on the Manager to give a report outlining the persistent difficulties in relation to the CCTV system in Tallaght and the steps it is proposed to take to overcome these current difficulties.
REPORT:
The Community CCTV cameras in Tallaght West, the key objectives of which are as follows:
· Assistance in the maintenance of public order and safety
· Assistance in the prevention, detection and investigation of offences
· Assistance in the prosecution of offenders
have been monitored by Gardai in Tallaght Station since late April 2010.
Upon receipt of verbal reports that the Gardai were experiencing difficulties of a technical nature, the contractor who installed the system was requested to assess the shortcomings and recommend a solution which would remedy the problems and restore confidence. The outcome was the installation of a pilot system based on 4 cameras which the gardai confirmed was to their complete satisfaction.
The contractor is currently engaged in extending the new system to all the remaining community CCTV cameras in Killinarden, Jobstown and Brookfield/Fettercairn. The upgrade is scheduled for completion by the end of this week.
