QUESTION NO. 1

QUESTION: Councillor C. Jones

To ask the Manager to make a statement on the possibility of barring private transport users from making a left turn from the Coldcut Road onto Kennelsfort Road?

REPLY:

The traffic using this junction includes trips connecting considerable local residential populations with essential amenities including shopping, education, leisure and employment. Restricting movements at this junction, such as the left turn onto Kennelsfort Road Upper, will significantly reduce the amenity value associated with residential areas affected. Such a restriction would have to show a large benefit to the wider community where the inconvenience is negligible and limited to those who wish to use this route and those living on the alternative route. There is little benefit in reducing rat running in one area in order to increase same in other areas. Each of the roads mentioned are local or regional distributor roads and such a ban would not be recommended.
