MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

MOTION NO. 21

MOTION: Councillor R. Dowds

That this Committee recommends that South Dublin County Council works with the North Clondalkin Community Development Programme to have funding of c. €120,000 p.a. restored so that it may continue to operate.

REPORT:

A comprehensive national cohesion process took place over the past number of years and there are now two Area Partnerships operating in South Dublin County

Following a review by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs the Department discontinued funding for the North Clondalkin Community Development Programme.  The project was allowed an appeal process however the original decision to cease funding was upheld.

Those projects in the Clondalkin area that have continued have funding until the end of 2010.  Some  will then merge with the CPLN Area Partnership and form part of that organisation and others may form part of a national structure for women’s groups.

There is no funding available under the LCDP Programme for any other Community Development Projects.  South Dublin County Council continues to work with community organisations in the North Clondalkin area to ensure that any potential funding available is applied for and any reduction of resources into the area is regretted.  However the Council had no function in the review process carried out by the Department or in the allocation of funding under this programme..
