QUESTION NO. 18
QUESTION: Councillor D. Keating
To ask the Manager to set out the time-scale for provision of dwelling units at the former shop in St. Finian's Estate, Lucan, following earlier agreements I sought and got that this premises would not be utilised as a shop again. Recently there have been reported incidents to me of increased anti-social behaviour, including a recent fire, where it was reported to me that great stresses were caused to local residents in St. Finian's Estate?
REPLY:
The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government have indicated their approval in principle which includes this site.
A Part 8 proposal is being prepared for the site having regard to the expressed wishes of the members of the Lucan/Clondalkin Area Committee and bearing in mind the optimum use of the site in the context of the Council's social housing needs.
This proposal will be brought again to members in the first quarter 2011 and will then be discussed with local residents prior to any public notification issuing. The agreed proposal will then be submitted for approval by the DoEHLG.
Subject to DoEHLG approval, and funding availability form the Social Housing Investment Programme allocation, the project may proceed to tender and construction stage in 2011.
The shop is currently being demolished and the site secured by palisade fencing, which should alleviate the anti social behaviour. The house is being re furbished and should be ready for reletting in December.
