SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

QUESTION NO. 7
Question: Councillor E. Walsh
"To ask the Manager what measures will be employed to ensure that small businesses are not affected, nor residents unnecessarily inconvenienced, by the installation of the proposed parking meters in Tallaght Village?"
REPLY:
In order to make the most advantageous use of the limited public parking available in the commercial areas of Tallaght the Control of Parking Bye Laws have been adopted.
In line with other areas the stifling effect of uncontrolled free and for the most part all day parking will be removed, resulting in an improvement in turnover of each parking space and consequently the footfall in the village. This strategy is similar to that already implemented in private parking areas locally. The tariff structure has been selected to cover the cost of the management and enforcement of the parking system. For the convenience of traders and their employees for whom frequent use of their cars is a necessity, permits are available at a reduced monthly rate.
It is recognised that Tallaght Village also accommodates a significant number of residents and the resident parking permit system will address their needs. Residents permits and visitor parking permits are available at a nominal annual rate and forms will be circulated to residents prior to the commencement of the controlled parking regime.
