QUESTION NO. 5

QUESTION: Councillor John Hannon

"To ask the Manager to provide a progress report on the Ballycullen Road/Firhouse Road QBC and indicating the date when it will become operational ?"

REPLY:

The Contract for completion of these works specified a period of 15 Months and as it commenced in October 2009, a completion by December 2010 would be indicated.

The works extend over a length of approximately 5 Km. and as the works have progressed undocumented existing services have had to be diverted in various locations. This has led to some delays as the affected services have had to be diverted in conjunction with the related Utility Service Providers. The time response of specialist sub-contractors working on behalf of the related Utility Service Providers, are outside the control of both the Contractor and SDCC and there have been a number of delays as a result.

In addition there was an additional requirement to provide an additional section of surface water drainage outfall through Glenlyon Estate which added to the overall time for completion.

Substantial completion of the section from Stocking Avenue in Woodstown  to the Spawell Link Road Junction on Firhouse Road is expected by 15th December 2010. As the various sections of roadway over this length are substantially completed and handed over to the Council, the Bus Corridor will become operational.

Completion of the section from the Spawell Link Road Junction past the Firhouse/Old Bridge Road junction to the Old Bridge/N81 junction will be delayed by the requirement to move several Utility Services in this area. Substantial completion of this section is anticipated by March 2011 together with completion of all minor outstanding works along the full length of the project.
