QUESTION NO. 4
QUESTION: Marie Corr
"To ask the Manager to immediately review the safety of traffic control measures at the Luas junction on Cookstown way leading to Tallaght Hospital, with a view to refreshing road markings and possibly including additional flashing lights to warn of oncoming trams. This location is currently hazardous and there have been many instances of drivers stopping on the junction box which may lead to an accident?"
REPLY:
The junction is a fully signalised junction and all movments including Tram movements are controlled by the traffic signals. Prior to any tram getting a proceed signal, all conflicting movements receive a RED signal.
Unfortunately there are a very small number of drivers who chooose to gamble on breaking red or amber signals at this (or indeed at any junction) and they are potentially placing themselves or other road users in danger.
Arrangements will be made to examine the road markings including Yellow Box in conjunction with the local road maintenance team to asceratin if renewal is required. The need for additional flashing lights will also be examined.
