COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)
Monday, November 15, 2010
MOTION NO. 3
MOTION: Councillor M. Duff
To ensure that the Council builds on the success of this year's Open Day in Ballymount Civic Amenity and to allow more customers in the Tallaght area to avail of the free service, that the Manager will consider extending the scheme in 2011 to at least three weekends before Halloween.
REPORT:
Free access to the Civic Amenity on the 30th October for South Dublin County Council customers this year was part of the Council's strategy to reduce the damage caused by bonfires throughout the County during Halloween. The initiative was very successful and yielded 163 ton of waste compared with the average Saturday tonnage of 66.
A full review of Halloween and the strategy employed by the Council will take place to determine its effect on reducing the impact of bonfires in the area, including free access to the Civic Amenity. This review will allow the Council to make informed decisions for next Halloween.
