MOTION NO.16
MOTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave
"That the Manager have the Parks Department resolve the problems with the surrounding area of the 14th Ballyroan Scout Group at Marian Road to include.
REPORT:
The trees in this area are not considered to be a problem and they have been thinned out some years ago and there is good vision generally of the perimeter wall of the Scout Den. It is not considered that there is any necessity to undertake thinning or removal works in this area at present.
It is not considered that the cracks in the wall have been caused by the action of tree roots particularly since the trees are quite young. From a visual inspection of the wall it appears that the foundation to it may not be suitable and may have contributed to the cracks in it. It is also noted that vandalism to the coping on the wall has not been repaired by the Scout Group.
The broken fence is the responsibility of the Scout Den and does not appear to have been maintained for some time.
Nevertheless, the Parks and Landscape Services Department will arrange to meet with the Scout Group in order that there is clarity by both the Council and the Scout Group about the issues and who is responsible for particular areas of maintenance.
