MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

"That this Committee discusses with the aid of an up to date report on the proposals for an upgrade for the bottle bank on Grange Road – it is an unsightly mess. Obviously negotiations with the OPW  have failed?  This problem is ongoing for 7 years. I had the following response on 17th Nov 2006: “With regard to the recycling unit at the corner of Grange Road and St Enda’s Park, a drawing is being prepared at present to upgrade this area. A meeting will be arranged with the residents when this is complete”

REPORT:

The relocation of the bring bank carries cost, land ownership and road re-alignment elements that have been under discussion and must be resolved before any works can be undertaken. It should be noted that the context has changed with the significantly different economic environment for both the Council and the OPW and that this has prevented any progress in relating the facility. However, the Council has received funding under the National Disability Strategy Programme 2010 to install an underground bring bank at a location within the county.  The practicality of installing an underground facility at this location is being investigated.

This location is regularly inspected and cleaned by the Council's Cleansing Section. It has been the subject recently of intense inspection by senior staff and is not considered to be an eye sore.
