MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 8

MOTION: Councillor C. Keane

Cathaoirleach's Business -

"That this Committee recommends that the Pillars at Glenlyon Estate be painted - they have been destroyed following work on QBC - the cost of a ltr. of paint would demonstrate that this Council have some consideration for those people who have 'endured' major disruption during those major roads works. There may be staff in some departments that could be seconded to do this job taking into consideration that there is no funding now for major new works."

REPORT:

The discoloration of the Stone Pillars at the entrance to Glenlyon Estate is the result of the natural weathering over time of the stone used for its construction. It is not recommended that they be painted as this would damage the natural stone. The recommended remedial works should be to steam clean/water jet the stone to remove the products of weathering.

No damage has been caused by the construction works related to the Firhouse/Ballycullen QBC and no remedial works can therefore be carried out under this contract.
