QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
To ask the Manager how many applications have been received by the Council to date for grants under the Higher Education Grants System (including applications from new applicants and applications for continuation grants), how many applications have been determined, and how many students have received payments of parts of their grants to-date?

As of Friday 29th October, a total of €540,370 has been paid for the current academic year (Sep/Oct). First maintenance payments of €327,940 have been paid to 541 students which is a mix of new and renewal applicants. Payments totalling €105,660 have also been made to those students who are eligible for Special Maintenance.
Tuition fee payment of €6,270 as invoiced has been made in respect of one student and €100,500 has been paid upon invoice in respect of registration fees for 67 students (@ €1500 each). Further payments of fees will continue as invoices are received from the Colleges.
