MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

MOTION NO. 23

MOTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

In view of the fact that the level of dumping and fly tipping in the back lanes in Palmerstown, especially close to the Primary Schools, has reached crisis point, that the Manager bring forward a plan for consideration and the subsequent approval of this Committee so that this blight on the Palmerstown Community, which is also a drain on the resources of this Council, can be eliminated once and for all.

REPORT:

The laneways/walkways are the subject of regular dumping and are patrolled as frequently as possible by the local Litter Warden.  The Warden also receives regular calls form local residents about the condition of the laneways.  Evidence is sought from the material to support litter fines/prosecutions where possible and clean ups are arranged by Cleansing as required.

Consultations will take place with the Litter Warden, the Cleansing Inspector and other relevant personnel with regard to formulating a proposal to address this issue.  In this regard, suggestions from the Elected Members and local residents are welcome and will be considered, subject to available resources.
