QUESTION NO. 26

QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

To ask the Manager for an updated report on progress on the implementation on the two projects under the Mayor's Initiative, at Balgaddy and  Mac Uileamm Estates, and to compliment the Manager and staff of the Community and Housing Departments in achieving additional funding for these projects?

REPLY:

At its meeting held on 13/9/2010 South Dublin County Council approved the Report under Part 8 of the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 - 2007 for both Schemes to construct a new public park and other associated landscape works at Meile An Ri and Tor An Ri in Balgaddy and at Mc Uilliam in Tallaght.

In respect of the Project at Balgaddy,  prepatory works are well underway for the removal of waste from the site, the re location of hardcore on site, the re grading of the entire site and relocation of top soil mounds to create a smooth surface ready for the installation of the park.  Tender documents are currently being prepared in respect of the construction of the Playground and MUGA.  Construction of the footpaths is currently in progress and kerbing works are due to be carried out within the next month.  The sowing of wild flowers is due to be carried out within the next month and the trees will be planted during the planting season in November/December.

In respect of the Project at Mc Uilliam, ground works are well underway and waste has been removed from the site.  Scrub and vegetation have been removed and the entire site regraded to finished levels.  The sub base for the footpaths has been installed and timber edgings and macadam base is currently underway.  Cultivation and seeding will be complete this week.  Tender documents are currently being prepared in respect of the construction of the Playground and MUGA.  Trees will be planted during the planting season in November/December.

Both Projects are due for completion by end of 2010.
