MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)

Monday, October 18, 2010

MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor S. Crowe

This Committee calls on the Manager to agree to a review and establish protocols and clear procedures in relation to the planting, pruning and possible removal of trees and other shrubbery on the sightlines of CCTV cameras in the Tallaght area and agree to  arrange for regular meetings on the issue with the relevent Garda Authorities.

REPORT:

The CCTV system set up in West Tallaght has been in full operation for some months now. The system is monitored by the Gardai and is designed to protect and enhance the quality of lives of the residents by contributing towards the reduction of anti-social behaviour and criminal activity. Every effort has been made to position the cameras in the locations considered to be of optimum value, but problems are likely to arise from time to time. While each camera is designed to rotate 360 degrees, it is not always possible to guarantee clear sight in every direction.

The Council will be reviewing the operation of all aspects of  the system periodically, along with the Gardai, the community, and the company responsible for the installation and maintenance of the system, as well as dealing with the various individual problems that arise from time to time.

The establishment of procedures for the planting, pruning and possible removal of trees will of course be considered as part of these reviews. The Council welcomes any suggestions that will improve the effectiveness of the CCTV system and improve the living conditions of residents.
