MOTION NO. 4
MOTION: Councillor C. King
That this Committee calls on the Manager to investigate the feasibility and possibility of facilitating a cul de sac at Russell Place as has been requested by residents in the area in the interest of safety and to stop the 'rat running' through the road to avoid the traffic lights nearby.
REPORT:
Russell Square is a large housing estate which can be accessed from 2 distributor roads namely Fortunestown Way and Jobstown Road.
It is understood that this motion relates to traffic which accesses Russell Place, left and right from Russell Avenue and Fortunestown Way.
The Roads and Traffic Department were consulted in relation to this matter and they have reported that they are not in a position to compel Kelland Homes, the Developer to alter the existing layout as the estate has not yet been taken in charge by the Council. The Roads and Traffic Department have further reported that any changes to the road layout of the estate can only be considered after the taking in charge process is completed.
It is also understood that a petition, signed by residents of Russell Place, was recently submitted to the Council's Roads and Traffic Department and that the aforementioned response will be given to residents in due course.
