QUESTION NO. 6

QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr

"To ask the Manager to immediately put in a cleansing schedule for more frequent cleansing of the area outside the shopping centre on Sundale Park given the lack of response from the adjacent property owner to the environmental hazard at this location due to persistent littering and lack of cleansing and also taking into consideration the councils responsibility to cleanse public roads?"

REPLY:

The local Litter Warden patrols this area on an almost daily basis and maintains very regular contact with local businesses to ensure that their responsibilities under the Litter Pollution Act, are met.   The Warden also liaises with both the Cleansing and Parks Departments as required to ensure that local clean up requirements are relayed and listed on the relevant work schedules.  In addition, the area has been swept this week (week commencing 11th October)  under the Council's road sweeping contract.  The Cleansing Inspector has been requested to ensure that requests from the local Litter Warden in respect of this area for additional clean ups are promptly carried out having regard  for available staff and existing workloads of the Cleansing Section.

As a result of  the above actions the condition of the Sundale Park area has improved and these actions will remain in place to address the issues that have arisen previously on an ongoing basis.
