QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr

"To ask the Manager to carry out a survey on housing in *Address Supplied  in order to ascertain the number of vacant houses that can be considered littered under the Litter Pollution Act and to present a report back to this Commitee on action being taken in each case?"

REPLY:

The local Litter Warden reports that of the four vacant dwellings he is aware of in the estate concerned, the position is as follows:

• 6 The Avenue: this house is boarded up and vacant but there are no major litter issues arising- there is a bin in the garden, near the property but it is not causing litter;
• 1 The Drive: this is a fire damaged house on which repair work has commenced -there are no litter issues arising;
• 16 The Drive: this is being refurbished due to alleged criminal damage and again there are no litter issues arising;
• 51a The Drive:  this is a property under construction and again there are no litter issues arising.

It is not always possible to ascertain whether properties are vacant and so if the Elected Members or general public are aware of vacant properties causing litter they should report the details to the local Litter Warden.
